Experienced Legal Support During a Difficult Time
Divorce is not the outcome anyone hopes for, but if you are facing a divorce, you have many important decisions to make. Do not try to make these decisions alone. This is an emotional time and you may benefit from the guidance of an experienced attorney in family law.
At Gentile, Horoho & Avalli, P.C., we have assisted thousands of people through the divorce process. Some of our lawyers helped draft the Pennsylvania Divorce Code that was passed in 1980; some of the Pittsburgh divorce attorneys at the firm have assisted with subsequent amendments to the Code. We have the knowledge and experience you need to make decisions that are right for you and your family during this time.
Dissolution of Marriage
In Pennsylvania, there are three ways to dissolve a marriage. One is if one spouse is at fault for breaking the marriage. This may include issues such as adultery or domestic violence.
There is also no-fault divorce in which both parties consent to end the marriage. If one party does not consent to the divorce, the other party must wait until a two-year separation has occurred before entering a divorce decree and receiving a final division of property.
During the separation, the couple must find solutions to numerous issues, including:
- Who lives in the marital home
- What are the spousal support obligations
- What are the child support obligations
- Who gets interim custody of the children
With our experience, we can help you address these questions and find answers that make sense for your family. If your divorce is fairly amicable, we can look for ways to settle the issues without litigation. However, if you are involved in a contentious divorce, we will aggressively pursue your interests in court.
