Gives Firm New Capability in Resolving Family Law Cases Out of Court Using Collaborative Law
Pittsburgh – Rebecca A. Myers, an attorney in the Pittsburgh family law firm of Gentile, Horoho & Avalli, P.C., has completed specialized training in mediation and collaborative law, enabling her to negotiate family law cases for clients without going to court.
She will now lead the firm’s Collaborative Law practice group.
Myers has received training from the Collaborative Law Association of Southwestern Pennsylvania (CLASPlaw.org) and has also completed formal training in mediation.
Collaborative law helps clients resolve disputes respectfully without litigation. It focuses on the needs and goals of the clients and the preservation of relationships among family members and business associates. Myers experience in family law and specialized training now enables her to apply this capability in divorce and custody cases.
The collaborative law process can be used to negotiate and resolve a variety of legal disputes, including:
- Divorce including custody, support, alimony and allocation of marital property
- Prenuptial and postnuptial agreements
- Wills and estates
- Guardianships and other elder law issues
- Civil matters such as employment, real estate and construction
- Business formation and dissolution
About Rebecca A. Myers
Since joining Gentile, Horoho & Avalli in 2005, Rebecca Myers has focused her practice exclusively on family law. In addition to practicing in all aspects of domestic relations litigation, Ms. Myers has completed training as a parent coordinator, a mediator and in collaborative law. She leads the firm’s Collaborative Law practice area.
Attorney Myers’ interest in family law is long standing and she devoted much of her studies in law school at the University of Pittsburgh to this area of practice. Additionally, her undergraduate training in psychology has proven helpful in assisting her clients through the difficult, often emotionally draining family court system. In addition to her family law litigation practice, Ms. Myers is also a certified mediator in divorce and family conflicts by the Association for Conflict Resolution.
Upon graduation from law school, she was awarded the American Association of Matrimonial Lawyers award for excellence in the area of family law. Additionally, Attorney Myers was named a Super Lawyer Rising Star in 2010, 2013, 2014 and 2017.
She is a member of the Allegheny County Bar Association and the Pennsylvania Bar Association. Ms. Myers is a member of the Family Law Section and the Young Lawyers Divisions of the local and state bar associations.
